What is Spotlight and Why is It Essential?
Spotlight is the premier platform that connects actors to casting professionals. A Spotlight membership is a must-have for any actor looking to make it in the competitive worlds of film, TV, and theatre. Without it, access to the most prestigious roles and casting calls becomes incredibly difficult. Spotlight is the go-to directory for casting agents and directors to find the most qualified talent, and being a member opens up numerous opportunities for networking, career development, and professional advice.
By training with Knock & Nash, you will be Spotlight-ready after two years of dedicated, part-time study. Our training program is specifically structured around the Spotlight membership criteria, ensuring that you have all the tools you need to succeed in the industry.
As student Helen Goldie (Pictured) shares:"When I began my first foundation course with Knock & Nash I didn’t even know what Spotlight was. Knock & Nash were with me every step of the way. I now have an agent and am working professionally."
Online Classes: Flexible, Professional Training
Our online classes are crafted to be accessible yet uncompromising on quality. These live, weekly sessions are perfect for actors looking for consistent training that fits into their busy lives. Whether you're working another job or managing other commitments, our online program offers unmatched flexibility without sacrificing the depth or breadth of training.
You will train over three terms: Autumn, Spring, and Summer, ensuring your growth is structured and consistent. Over two years, you’ll cover everything from foundational techniques to advanced methods used by professional actors.
Foundation Screen Acting (Mondays, 7-9pm): This class is for those new to screen acting or those looking to solidify their foundation. It’s designed to develop your confidence and essential acting skills, preparing you to perform authentically on camera.
Advanced Screen Acting (Tuesdays, 7-9pm): For more experienced actors, this class takes your skills to the next level, focusing on advanced techniques and real-world preparation for professional opportunities in film and television.
Both of these classes are built with the Spotlight membership in mind, ensuring that your progress aligns with the industry standards required for membership. By attending all terms over two years, you'll gain the practical knowledge and insights needed to stand out as a professional actor.
In-Person Classes: Hands-On Experience in a Professional Environment
For those who crave hands-on experience, our in-person offerings provide the perfect complement to your online training. We ensure that every class prepares you for the realities of the acting industry, offering immersive, real-world experiences.
Practical Screen Acting Intensive: Our immersive five-day course is your chance to work on camera with industry-standard equipment. You'll cover various genres—drama, comedy, soap operas—and work on real scenes to build your screen presence. This is a fantastic opportunity to get a feel for the industry and refine your on-set performance.
Weekend Workshops: These focused, intensive sessions provide you with the space to hone specific skills such as monologue performance, audition techniques, and more. Led by active industry professionals, these workshops give you direct feedback and real-time experience in an intimate setting.
Short Film Project: This week-long project allows you to shoot a cinematic short film. It’s a powerful opportunity to showcase your skills, receive IMDb credits, and work with a full professional crew. The project is entered into film festivals and premiered for an industry audience—putting you directly in front of casting professionals.
