Course Details
Knock & Nash's Screen Monologue Lab is a two-day intensive for actors who want to develop their craft while leaving with a professionally produced screen monologue, ready for Spotlight, agents and casting submissions. Working in an intimate group of just six actors, you'll receive extensive one-to-one direction as you explore text, strengthen your connection to the material and develop a truthful, camera-ready performance. Throughout the weekend, we'll focus on the relationship between thought, behaviour and language, helping you move beyond performance and towards authentic human behaviour on screen. Drawing on techniques associated with practitioners including Uta Hagen, Meisner, Michael Chekhov and David Mamet, the training explores how objectives, playable actions, listening and imagination combine to create compelling screen performances. Rather than pursuing emotion, the work centres on truthful action, allowing emotional life to emerge naturally through the given circumstances. Across two days, you'll rehearse, refine and film your monologue under professional production conditions. Unlike a traditional workshop, the Screen Monologue Lab combines expert performance direction with a dedicated production team, ensuring every performance is captured to the highest possible standard using professional, Netflix-approved cinema cameras, cinematic lighting and industry-standard production techniques. Following the weekend, each monologue is professionally edited, colour graded and sound mixed, creating a polished final film suitable for Spotlight, agents, self-promotion and casting opportunities. Every stage of the process is designed to produce a piece of work that reflects both your ability as an actor and the visual standards expected by today's film and television industry. Alongside creating your finished monologue, you'll develop a deeper understanding of approaching text for screen, making clear playable choices, sustaining truthful behaviour across multiple takes and working confidently with a director and camera under professional filming conditions. To ensure every actor receives extensive individual direction and dedicated production time, places are strictly limited to six participants. Places are strictly limited. Full payment is required to secure your place and bookings are non-refundable. Please refer to our Terms & Conditions for details.
