Course Details
Knock & Nash's Screen Monologue Lab is a two-day intensive for actors who want to develop their craft while leaving with a professionally produced, custom-made screen monologue, ready for Spotlight, agents and casting submissions. Before the intensive begins, you'll work with us online to develop and write an original monologue specifically for you, shaped around your casting, strengths and what you want to showcase. Working in an intimate group of just six actors, you'll receive extensive individual direction as you explore your bespoke text and develop a truthful, camera-ready performance. We'll focus on the relationship between thought, behaviour and language, helping you move beyond performance and towards authentic human behaviour on screen. Drawing on techniques associated with practitioners including Uta Hagen, Meisner, Michael Chekhov and David Mamet, the training explores objectives, playable actions, listening and imagination. Rather than pursuing emotion, the work centres on truthful action, allowing emotional life to emerge naturally through the circumstances. Across two days, you'll rehearse, refine and film your monologue under professional production conditions. With a dedicated production team, your performance will be captured using professional, Netflix-approved cinema cameras, cinematic lighting and industry-standard production techniques. Following the weekend, your monologue will be professionally edited, colour graded and sound mixed, creating a polished final film suitable for Spotlight, agents, self-promotion and casting opportunities. Alongside your finished film, you'll leave with a deeper understanding of approaching text for screen, making playable choices, sustaining truthful behaviour across multiple takes and working confidently with a director and camera.
